Atlanta’s fashion scene has grown over the years gaining nationwide and worldwide recognition through some of your favorite shows including Project Runway. The city is booming with makers who are on their way to hit it big. From home decor to fashion to jewelry designers, ATL has some of the brightest talent. If you are traveling here, you’ll want to check out some of our Southern stand-outs.

Finding one-of-a-kind items with great quality helps make a good retail experience over mall brands. You can support local merchants and designers by purchasing something worth writing home about. Since shopping locally is the hip thing to do, many stores seek local vendors of handmade products to sell in their retail locations.  Due to increasing popularity and more visibility in boutiques, some designers have been fortunate enough to open their own stores.

L’Artisan Muse describes themselves as providing a luxury sensory experience. NY Magazine describes them as having the best smelling candles around and I agree. Located in Westside Provisions District, this is the perfect place to put you near a shopping oasis. Their charming, serene boutique gives you a calming feeling the moment you enter. Atlanta master artisans have created ready-made fragrances with scents ranging from earthy notes to floral notes and everything in between. Customer favorites tend to be the candle collection and the Bespoke Fragrance. 

For a truly customized experience, you can blend your own fragrance using oils like lavender, bergamot, and white tea. After meeting with master artisan Faloune James, she will let you smell each scent and get an idea of what you like. From there you will put your favorites together to create your unique fragrance. You will be the envy of your friends with your fragrance created by you and for you. 

Recently, I made my own fragrance and decided to call it ‘Balance’ with hints of the kadu flower and peppery oud for a scent that is perfect for a beach vacation.

If you are looking for leather goods, Glad & Young Studio has what you need. The female duo Anna Zietz and Erica Verges designs and produces leather accessories and jewelry with neutral tones and colors to elevate any wardrobe. I recently discovered them through Archel Bernard, owner of local fashion company BOMBCHEL. Following some of my favorite local designers helps me connect with other talented makers to support.

Glad & Young Studio products are sold inside of Citizen Supply at Ponce City Market. You can pick up clutches, book bags, wallets and much more. I just purchased a fanny pack, their #1 seller, which comes in nine colors. You can add customization on-the-spot for a personalized gift perfect for travelers, such as a passport cover with initials. Catch the designers crafting their leather goods in their studio or chat with them about what you’re looking for in accessories. Superb customer service.

Kaboodle Home

485 Flat Shoals Ave. SE Atlanta, Georgia 30316

Head over to East Atlanta Village, the hipster neighborhood also referred to by locals as EAV. Kaboodle Home is highly recommended as a good stop to spruce up your home. You can definitely catch some cool art or furniture designed and crafted by Atlanta makers. Owner Michael Knight creates furniture with a flair — such as upcycling old school lockers. You can find several local artists’ designs in-store, including artwork from Mike Fink and coasters topped with everything from famous singers to eclectic Atlanta neighborhoods made by David Roe. In the upper level, they even sell vintage clothes and body care products. You never know what unique items you’ll find in this cool store. Sidenote: I went on an impromptu “date” here and it was so much fun to check out all of their cool creative items.

Suakoko Betty

Atlanta fashion brand Suakoko Betty has been a hit locally and abroad. I discovered this brand years ago going to a vendor shopping fair with local boutiques — again, my favorite way to find local designers. Award-winning designer Charlene Dunbar created this fashion line mixing Liberian and American cultures by taking African wax fabric and creating contemporary designs for the young at heart. Her fashion ranges from classic fit and flare dresses to jumpsuits, from casual to dressy. Her clothing and accessories can be found at The Beehive in the Edgewood Shopping Center. Check out her most recent collection; different capsules come out in the various seasons.

BoHo Gal Shoppe

714 Moreland Ave. Suite C Atlanta, Georgia 30316

If you love tribal jewelry with a spiritual touch, BoHo Gal Shoppe sells items inspired by different countries and cultures. Owner of Boho Gal, Shahnaz Hughson moved to Atlanta from Mumbai more than 20 years ago and has taken over the jewelry space selling necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings. I discovered her items at a popular vendor show Boutique Warehouse Sale years ago where several boutiques in the area come together for one big sale, held just two weekends a year.  From there, I followed her to local boutiques and then online. Having success selling in boutiques, this summer she recently opened up her own location in the East Atlanta area. The new boutique has expanded its offerings to include home goods, books and more. Their team constructs the jewelry in-house so you’ll catch them constantly whipping up new designs. Check out their hours and their special pop-up shops that also include plants.
